The firm Arassociati was founded in 1997 by Marco Brandolisio, Giovanni da Pozzo and Massimo Scheurer, architects that started to develop their professional vision in the studio of Aldo Rossi since 1982 and becoming his closest collaborators in the Milan office. Since its beginning Arassociati has designed and constructed numerous buildings for both public and private use in Italy and across Europe. In its ventures, the firm seeks to expand its architectural prowess by pursuing continuity between the building and the environment of the city or territory while adhering to rational building construction principles.

The firm in 2004 received the International Architecture Theatre Award for the reconstruction of the Fenice in Venice, while in 2008 was published the book about the making of Tiscali Campus and in 2013 the monograph “Arassociati – architectures”, both published by Electa. Various projects have been published in magazines on architecture and other related sectors. The office activity has also been demonstrated through participation in exhibitions, conferences and international competitions.

Among the major achievements: the reconstruction of La Fenice Theather in Venice, the renovation of former Philips Site in Louven, the StarHotel Rosa Grand in Piazza Fontana in Milan, the Campus Tiscali in Cagliari Sa’ Illetta, the University Library at the cloisters of the Carmine in Brescia, the housing and office development at Muller Martini Site in Zurich, the Modern Art Gallery MAMbo in Bologna, the restoration and expansion of Theatre National Populaire of Villeurbanne-Lyon and the Heydar Aliyev Museum in Baku.

More recently the firm has realized the pavilion of Azerbaijan at Expo-Milano 2015 and completed the renovation and the new interior design of the Hotel ME “Il Duca” by Meliá in Milan. We should also mention the residential projects of Via Varese and Corso Garibaldi in Milan’s historic center and the renovation of the House of Artists of Brera. In 2016 it is under construction an important residential and hotel resort development in Canouan in the Caribbean (Barbados-Grenadines).

Chronology of projects

1998They were commissioned by the city of Leuven in Belgium to design a series of buildings and services for the city and public administration on the disused Philips industrial site. These buildings include new headquarters for Limburg County, new headquarters for the federal police force, and a new sports stadium currently in the final phases of construction. In the same year they were also commissioned to design the “Manifattura delle Arti” in Bologna which includes a new university campus for DAMS, a community library and film theater on the site of the area’s old slaughterhouse, and a restoration of the old bakery factory for a new Modern Art Gallery.

1999They won the URBAN project competition for university social-housing in Trieste, Italy. The work was completed in 2002. Following the competition entry for the reconstruction of La Fenice Theater in Venice developed in 1997 by Aldo Rossi, they were commissioned to complete the theater’s final architectonic plans and manage the artistic work during the construction phases. The building was inaugurated in 2004 and Arassociati received the International Architectural Theater Prize for their work.

2000They participated in and won the competition to construct a hotel building for Starhotels in Piazza Fontana, Milan. During the construction they were commissioned to the interior design of the new rooms and of all the hotel’s public parts (Finished in 2008).

2001They began collaborating with Tiscali S.p.A. for which they were commissioned to design new offices in Milan and to create a site plan for the Sa’Illetta (“Little Island”) in Cagliari, Sardinia. They also won the competition to restore the Cloisters of Carmine in Brescia, Italy, for a new interdepartmental university library. (Finished in 2006)

2002They were commissioned for the construction of the new Tiscali “Campus” in Cagliari for which the buildings were inaugurated in September the following year.

2003They won the international competition for the construction of residential buildings and office space on the Müller Martini area in Zurich. The construction was finished in 2007.

2004Arassociati, in association with Hans Kollhoff, was chosen as one of ten finalists for the international competition for the new Lombardy Regional Headquarters in Milan. Recently, the studio was chosen as one of seven finalists for the competition for the reorganization of the Sforzesco Castle Museum in Milan.

2005They won the international invited competition for the renovation and expansion of Theatre National Popular in Villeurbanne – Lyon (France) and they were commissioned for its construction.

2006They was invited for the competition to develop of the hotel’s area inside the new fear of Milan. They also won the competitions for the renewal of Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo and  the competition for the restauration of Teatro Sociale in Camogli.

2007Arassociati was selected in the final ten architects for the international competition for the new Auditorium of the city of Padova winning the third prize. At the fifth of may 2007 the new Modern art Gallery of Bologna named MAMbo, designed by Arassociati, was opened.

2008The firm was invited for the competition to develop the residential masterplan in Cascina Merlata area in Milan; they designed two buildings for Benetton Group in Irkutsk (Russia) and in Pristina (Kosovo). The book “Arassociati – TISCALI – Il Campus dell’innovazione” was published by Electa. The firm was in charged to develop the masterplan and the architectural design for the Capo Malfatano Resort (hotels and villas) in Sardinia.

2009Arassociati take part in Triennale of Milan for the exhibition Benetton “Opening soon”, they are selected in the final ten architects for the international competition the New Building of the Province of Bergamo. They won the competition for the realization of an office-buildings complex in Viale Certosa in Milan. In the same year Arassociati developed the proposal project for the new Ministry District in Oyala, the new capital town of Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

2010They continue to collaborate with Benetton Group designing other two buildings in Ulan Bator (Mongolia) and in Taranto (Puglia). The studio was invited to the international competition for the new resort Hotel Sandy Lane in Canouan (Grenadine). Arassociati received the prize Hospitality Awards at Eire 2010 for the Capo Malfatano Resort designed for S.I.T.A.S.  Sansedoni Group.

2011The Benetton Group buildings in Irtskuk and Ulan Bator were finished and in December the Theater National Populaire in Villeurbanne of Lyon was completed and inaugurated. The firm was commissioned for the projects of both the Toto Group Headquarters in Chieti and in Pescara.

2012The firm was commissioned to design the new headquarters of the Foundation Heydar Aliyev in Baku and work began on the construction of residential complexes of via Varese and Corso Garibaldi in the center of Milan.

2013Arassociati  design and build the Heydar Aliyev Museum in Baku and they won the competion for the Khojaly Memorial also in Baku. They are also engaged in the development and design of several housing estates in Italy and Europe. The firm was commissioned by the Melià group to develop the whole interior design of Hotel Il Duca in Milan.

2014The firm was commissioned to design a new hotel in the urban development plan of Porta Volta in Milan downtown district and also to the project of the Azerbaijan Pavilion for Expo Milano-2015.

2015Was completed the renovation of the Hotel Mé Il Duca in piazza della Repubblica in Milan which was created the whole new interior design; the Azerbaijan pavilion was opened at Expo-Milano 2015. They are being built several residential projects in downtown Milan. The firm was also commissioned to design the new Civic Theater in Rho (Milan).

2016The firm started the construction of an important residential and hotel resort development on the Caribbean island of Canouan (Grenadines). The new hotel Porta Volta is nearing completion and currently the firm was commissioned for the project of a new building in Milan in the area of Porta Nuova.

 

Architects

Marco Brandolisio

Marco Brandolisio was born on October 4, 1957 in Trieste, Italy.
He was awarded a degree in architecture in March 1987 from the Polytechnic Institute in Milan.
In 1988, he began working with Prof. Aldo Rossi with whom he has participated in numerous projects and competitions; in the years M. Brandolisio has overseen many important projects for the Aldo Rossi studio both in Italy and abroad.
Parallelly to practice the profession of an architect he has developed the teaching activities at the university; he taught in 1997 at the I.U.A.V. in Venice and he was in charged professor in Architectural Composition at the Faculty of Civil Architecture in the Polytechnic Institute in Milan until 2006/07.
He has also lectured by invitation at various universities in Italy and abroad, has participated in meetings and study seminars, and his writings and project have been published in numerous books and magazines on architecture.
M. Brandolisio has expanded his study of architectural and urban planning/composition through competitions and professional practice with peculiar reference to the design of public buildings.

Giovanni da Pozzo

Giovanni da Pozzo was born on December 23, 1959 in Milan and in 1983, he was awarded a degree in architecture from the Polytechnic Institute in Milan.
In 1983, G. da Pozzo also began working with Aldo Rossi, with whom he has participated in numerous projects both in Italy and abroad. G. da Pozzo has overseen important projects for the Aldo Rossi studio and among many projects; he subscribed the competition for reconstructing the La Fenice Theatre in Venice (1997).
In 1998, while working on behalf of the Aldorossi S.r.l. company, G. da Pozzo was placed in charge of technical coordination, and architectural design for a competition for a new university centre on the Bovisa campus at the Polytechnic Institute in Milan. (3°prize and special award)
In 1992 he began the collaboration as designer and art-director with Arte S.r.l. regarding industrial design expecially in the realization of sitting system for office.
G. da Pozzo has held lectures and conferences at several universities and international conventions, and his projects have been published in books and magazines on architecture.
Inside Studio Arassociati its precise interest is turned to the themes of the architectural planning of housing and the habitability of the buildings, developing besides a significant experience in the field of the hospitality and the retail buidings.

Massimo Scheurer

Massimo Scheurer was born in Bellinzona (Ticino Canton, Switzerland) on January 23, 1959.
He became an architectural technician in 1980, having earned a diploma from the Lugano-Trevano technical high school.
In 1990, M. Scheurer was awarded a degree from the University School of Architecture in Venice.
Since 1982, M. Scheurer began working with Aldo Rossi, with whom he has participated in numerous projects both in Italy and abroad. He has overseen important projects for the Aldo Rossi studio and among many of them; he has subscribed the competition for reconstructing La Fenice Theatre in Venice (1997).
Since 1986 he was engaged as scenographic director at Teatro Arsenale in Milan.
M. Scheurer specialises in the field of urban architectural design. His efforts particularly emphasise the relationship between composition and representation. He is also interested in the technological and construction properties of the materials used in architectural projects.
M. Scheurer has further developed these themes in public buildings such as museums, theatres and convention centres, and has discussed them in lectures at several universities national and abroad. His writings and projects have been published in numerous architectural magazines.
