Giovanni Da Pozzo was born on December 23, 1959 in Milan. In 1983, he was awarded a degree in architecture from the Polytechnic Institute in Milan. The design of university buildings was the subject of his thesis, which included a proposal for expanding the Polytechnic Institute. In 1983, he began working for the Unifor company, where his duties mostly dealt with the technological aspects of construction, along with the study of new materials and their application.
In 1983, G. Da Pozzo began working with Aldo Rossi, with whom he has participated in numerous projects both in Italy and abroad. G. Da Pozzo has overseen important projects for the Aldo Rossi studio, such as a 1988 competition for the Deutsches Historiches Museum in Berlin (1st prize), the Bonnenfanten Museum in Maastricht (1992-95), the expansion of Linate airport in Milan (1991-93), a building for office and commercial use for Landsberger Allee in Berlin (1992-97), the EEC Technological Park at Fondo Toce (1993-97), and a competition for reconstructing the La Fenice Theatre in Venice (1997).
Since 1984, G. Da Pozzo has been professionally active in the field of urban and architectural design and has participated in numerous competitions. In 1992 he began the collaboration as designer and art-director with Arte S.r.l. regarding industrial design expecially in the realization of sitting system for office. In 1998, while working on behalf of the Aldorossi S.r.l. company, G. Da Pozzo was placed in charge of technical coordination, and architectural design for a competition for a new university centre on the Bovisa campus at the Polytechnic Institute in Milan. He has held lectures and conferences at several universities and international conventions, and his projects have been published in books and magazines on architecture. In 1999, he and fellow members of his studio edited a book entitled, "Aldo Rossi: The sketchbooks, 1990-97", published by Federico Motta Editore.
